THE BLACK SEEDS are coming strong in 2008 with their fourth album Solid Ground released on Best Seven/ Sonar Kollektiv (
SBCD0011/dem roots). In ten years the 8 piece roots-reggae outfit hailing from Wellington refined their pacific sound made of Dub, Funk, Afrobeat and Soul without losing the feelgood vibe that make their music so easy to listen to and so enjoyable. Moreover with the extensive local and international touring for the 3 previous albums, notably for the double-platinum selling album Into The Dojo, the 8 members of THE BLACK SEEDS became very close to each other. This entimacy shared among all the members of the band has had a great influence upon the creative process of Solid Ground and upon the lyrics written by frontman BARNABY WEIR. Recorded once again at The Surgery Studio with DR LEE PREBBLE and produced by MIKE FABULOUS, Solid Ground is THE BLACK SEEDS at their very best: heavy, groovy, uncompromising and real. Once again a great importance has been placed on remaining true to who they are and where they are from - from the expansive green landscapes and coastlines of New Zealand and the South pacific, to the urban community of their home city Wellington.
After the heavy-hitting first single Slingshot where BARNABY teaches us the basics of the karmic justice with his groovy and relaxing voice, THE SEEDS are back again on Sonar Kollektiv/Best Seven with Love a is Radiation, an infectious second single fused with delightful roots-reggae grooves, where they give us their very own magic formula to enjoy every moment of our lives. As BARNABY puts it “ Love Is A Radiation is our mantra. It means that even in dark times and even in world full of war, love is still there and love still can be found. But you have to be open to it and you have to want to see it.” This wonderful number is accompanied by its great instrumental version that will get everyone dancing from Wellington to Berlin.
