Jazzanova takes it to the next stage: The Funkhaus Studio Sessions. Jazzanova producers, Stefan Leisering & Axel Reinemer, went into the studio with their 7 piece live band with Paul Randolph on vocals to record a 14 track set.

Whoever had the chance to see Jazzanova play live during the last three years knows how magical this experience can be. The Berlin based outfit transports the richness and sublimity of their productions (own compositions and remixes) perfectly on stage. And it adds this extra twist to the performance which makes the music even more tangible and human. In last November the 2 producers of Jazzanova, Stefan Leisering & Axel Reinemer & the original Jazzanova touring band (see below for full line up) brought the spirit of their extensive worldwide tour to the studio to record a typical live set - this time with proper recording gear and state-of-art engineering equipment though. The "Funkhaus Studio Sessions" marks Jazzanova's first live album release. Including the songs the band learned to love the most on tour over the last three years as well as the audience's favourites: From their initial breakthrough smash "Fedime's Flight" to "Look What You're Doin To Me" off the "Of All The Things" album from 2008 and renditions and interpretations of Jazzanova remixes (f.e. the remix for Fat Freddy's Drop's "Flashback"). The 14 track strong set also includes a brand new tune with
"I Human", co-written by vocalist and bass player Paul Randolph, a constant member of the live band and now of course the voice of the "Funkaus Studio Sessions". An album that will please every Jazzanova fan and every true music lover with an affinity for warm, soulful, deep and genuine musicianship. When have you last heard a studio album so alive, fleshly, organic and solid at the same time? It captures the feel of a live recording but without any flaws due to poor recording equipment or sound aesthetics.

The sessions at the legendary GDR Rundfunk Orchestra studios in East Berlin have also been filmed. Check out the accompanying video to "I Human" for some of its footage. With "Funkhaus Studio Sessions" Jazzanova will take you and their music to the next stage.

For the first time, singer Lisa Bassenge and her band recorded the new pieces entirely live. The recording sessions took place in a studio of their long-time friend and audio engineer Tobias Seitz, situated in the new bohemian area of Berlin - Neukölln. After three successful albums, which were recorded as part of Jazzanova's label Sonar Kollektiv in the spirit of the Berlin electronic music scene, the band is now turning to a more back- to-the-roots way of making music.

The bands members Lisa Bassenge (voc), Paul Kleber (bass), Boris Meinhold (guitar/production) and Sebastian Demmin (piano/keyboards ) have all been long-time friends and their satisfaction to be on stage as much as possible and be on tour together have bonded them even stronger. ”Wish I Was Here“ is the pure essence of Micatone; the sound is deep and mature. Already on their last album the band had started to sacrifice some of their electronic emphasis for a larger musical horizon. The music on the new album has integrated elements of soul, surf, beat and blues. Surfing Guitars, Beatles Bass, funky mono drums, Hammond organ and antique synthesizers are comple- mented by Disco style strings, Harp and French horn. The sound of this album is a little more rough and a lot more organic and warmer than the prior albums were set up to be.

Sonar Kollektiv welcomes FETSUM to our label! It’s official now: Sonar Kollektiv signed singer songwriter FETSUM in January 2012. A great match, as we think. Like Sonar Kollektiv FETSUM as a Berlin-based artist pursues an international vision for his music. As FETSUM puts it “I’m very happy! It seems I have found the perfect label for the international release of my debut album. It was our mutual understanding of music and the visions we share with it that were essential for both sides to decide to work together.”

Touching on Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, Reggae and African influences FETSUM’s music reflects his inner most thoughts and feelings. His inspirations range from legends like Nina Simone and Oum Kalsoum to global peace activists and everday single mothers. “Our highs and lows, sadness, doubt, joy, faith and hope! ” are the sources of what FETSUM calls ‘Urban Folk Music’. Embarking on his music talents as a teenager but professionally pursuing a music career only a few years ago, FETSUM is climbing one peak after another. He shared stage with German artists like Peter Fox, Max Herre, and Söhne Mannheims but also with renowned international acts like Patrice, Estelle and K’NAAN.

FETSUM recorded his debut album in Patrice’s Cologne based Supow Studio. Presently Sonar Kollektiv and the artist are moving full-speed ahead to release it within the next months. The release dates will be announced soon!

NEW SINGLE: Micatone - Handbrake A good year lies ahead for Sonar Kollektiv: One of the stables' most successful and most enduring horses is back at the starting gate.

NEW SINGLE & VIDEO - Jazzanova - I Human Over the last decade Jazzanova has grown a reputation for their studio productions, their remixes and their dj sets all over the world.

After their second album the 5 dj's and producers decided that it was about time to perform their music on stage as well. Now.. three years later, Jazzanova have played together with their live band and Paul Randolph far over 100 shows around the globe.

Why not connect both sides: hosting a recording session of their live show at the legendary Funkhaus Studios, Berlin? The result is the studio live album "Funkhaus Studio Sessions" with new live versions of Jazzanova classics like "No Use", "Fedimes Flight" or "I Can See" and live reworks of some of their remixes for Fat Freddys Drop, Paul Randolph and Shaun Escofferey plus the very first recording of “I Human”, their fantastic soulful new theme-song – a statement with different meanings to different listeners.

The track features the mesmerizing vocal delivery by Detroit singer/musician Paul Randolph. In his words, "I Human" is a statement of the feeling you have when you create music and interact with people in an one-on-one and personal live situation, instead of ambivalent text messages and e-mails. And that's what you can hear in this wonderful piece of live recorded music. Uplifting, life affirming, soul soothing and yes, human!

12inch will be released end of February.

The album "Funkhaus Studio Sessions" will be released in May 2012.
